GridSME Is Turning 12!
Sara Rhodes • March 30, 2023

From Seed to Vine, GridSME Turns 12 on April 1

The power industry has made significant strides since 2011, specifically in the renewable space with advancements in energy storage technology, improvements in solar panel efficiency from around 15% to over 20%, increases in wind turbine generator size from around 2MW to 5MW to now over 10MW, developments in smart grid technology, and advancements in hydrogen fuel cell technology that has improved efficiency and affordability. Renewable project owners, developers, operators, and EPCs have encountered new and unknown challenges and experienced significant regulatory changes, which, as a result, led them to GridSME as their partner to find solutions for those problems. As our clients' continue growing, GridSME will continue expanding our capabilities by investing in our SMEs and opening the door for them to grow their opportunities, knowledge, and expertise.

As we continue on toward our goal of being a 50-year company, we will continue building strong and deep foundations with the people, processes, and technology that make up GridSME. To our SMEs and clients, thank you for joining us on this journey! We are pretty excited about the future we are building together.

This industry is just getting started!

There has never been a more exciting time to be part of the power industry...

Matt Barnes

CEO

"There has never been a more exciting time than right now to be a part of the power industry. Today, many of our clients are well underway in a massive transformation of our world’s electricity generation capabilities. The generation landscape is massively different from what it was 12 years ago, and I can only imagine what it will look like 12 years from now. We’re really excited for the next 12 years and the opportunity to help our clients shape the future."

Lonnie Rush

Co-Founder

"From an idea over coffee to Eric Whitley's kitchen table as our first office, I'm in awe of the GridSME team that has been assembled since 2011. With experts spread out around the world, the GridSME team has never been as deep and talented with hundreds and hundreds of years of industry experience to draw upon. Building a sustainable energy future has never been more important to our country and to the world. Our founding is based on partnering with our clients to help solve the grid's complex and ever-changing challenges. Happy Birthday and congratulations to the GridSME team and thank you to our loyal clients who have joined us on this journey. We're just getting started!"

Eric Whitley

Co-Founder

I’ve now been in the electrical industry for 40 years this March with the last 12 years creating, running and now cheerleading GridSME. In that time I’ve seen so much fundamental change from deregulation in California to the tensions within energy transformation to renewables and an emerging shift in the way we think about energy and other critical infrastructure. What I am so grateful for is the opportunity for our team to be at the forefront of facilitating that change. The best part of my career is in GridSME and GridSecurity, and my hope is that we continue making a difference by enabling and encouraging the transformations ahead of us. Thank you to our staff and to our clients for the journey we are on together and the future (with all its problems to solve) ahead of us.
