The days are getting longer and the temps are rising, and if you didn’t check the calendar you might think that FERC was already on summer break. There have not been many Electric Reliability Organization items on FERC’s plate in the last two months. The lull ongoing at FERC did not carry over to NERC.
NERC has been teeming with activity lately. At their Board of Trustees meeting last month, NERC approved three new standards and has already approved another since then. The CIP Version 5 Revisions are now posted for comment and the ballot pool may now be joined. NERC is also preparing to issue a mandatory data request to determine “the number and types of assets that fall outside the definition of BES Cyber Asset.” NERC has also just issued its State of Reliability 2014 and Summer Reliability Assessment reports. Perhaps as the summer heat and humidity envelope Atlanta and D.C. these folks will slow down.
