The Reliable Wire, Volume 2, Issue 2, February 2014

We are now one month into 2014, and here in California, we are starting to wonder if we will see a winter or, more importantly, significant precipitation at all. Water managers are going to have to perform a delicate balancing act this summer to quench our thirst, water the crops and stock, meet the regulations, and provide power. Let’s hope for a wet, cool spring.

The new year has already seen a flurry of activity on the reliability regulatory front. It looks like it’s going to be another busy year. The CIP version 5 revision team has already released its Standard Authorization Request (SAR) to respond to FERC’s directives in Order 791. The BES drafting team is working on a reference document that is also posted for comment.

Just a reminder, annual Self-Certifications are underway and we are rapidly approaching the final submission date of March 3, 2014. If you are not going to be able to meet that deadline, you might want to contact your Regional Entity sooner rather than later. Generally, they’re pretty understanding.
