It’s the best time of the year, in my opinion at least. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and we’re only three months away from self-certification season! While playoff baseball, the revving up of football season, and a looming shutdown of the federal government may be distracting us, we must remember that October 1 is the start of a new quarter and with that three new standards will be-come effective — (1) EOP-003-2, (2) MOD-028-2, and (3) PRC-006-1. Make sure your policies and procedures reflect the changes made to those standards, and if any changes were made, make sure those changes have been communicated to all appropriate staff. This is also a good time to make sure that you are on track for all annual reviews that need to be completed before year’s end and to be thinking about budgetary needs for your compliance program if they have not already been submitted. Remember, come November and December employees start getting scarce so prepare now before the holidays are upon us. Lastly, October is Cyber Security Awareness month. How is your utility handling cyber security? Are you in a better position than last year?
